Earl Kimball Award "Hall of Fame Member"

This award is given to an individual or individuals who have been very influential to the Headwaters Chapter over the years. The recipients of this award are no longer member of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors would like to show their appreciation to these members by recognizing their service.

Rusty Gates Award

This award is named after Calvin H. “Rusty” Gates. Rusty was a man who was the ultimate conservationist in Michigan history. He walked the walk and talked the talk. He was the first to stand up for Michigan’s coldwater resource and trout population. Rusty led others to stand up to protect these precious waters It was his undying desire to pass this wonderful resource and beautiful trout population down to generations so they could enjoy the rivers and streams, as he did.

The “Rusty Gates Award” is given to an individual or group who delivers excellence in Conserving, Protecting or Restoring Michigan coldwater streams and watersheds. The recipient of the award must provide outstanding leadership in at least one of the three categories.

LSSU Fisheries Scholarship

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a LSSU senior student majoring in the LSSU Fisheries and Wildlife Management program, with a focus on fisheries.


Brown Trout

This award is given to the individual or individuals who demonstrate leadership, the willingness to be pro-active with projects and events, and a role model for the Headwaters Chapter.

Rainbow Trout

This award is given to the most outstanding General Member. Officers and Board Members are not eligible for this award. The Headwaters Chapter can count on this individuals support in most of the events the chapter conducts, recognition of the volunteerism of this individual that is not on the Board of Directors is necessary.

Brook Trout

This award is given to the most outstanding youth for the current year. The preference is to have the youth a member of our chapter, but it is not a requirement. We may have had this youth at our events and projects, or we may have sponsored the youth to attend a school.

President’s Award

This award is given to an Officer, a Board member, or a General Member. The President will choose an individual or individuals who have shown exemplary service to the  Headwaters Chapter. Someone the President and the chapter truly benefited from.
